After breakfast enjoy the full day sightseeing of New and Old Delhi. The capital city of modern India, New Delhi is a well laid-out main metropolitan area built by the British when they moved their capital here from Calcutta in 1911. It blends internationalism and tradition, with many interesting museums and art galleries here. Visit Qutub Minar and Humayun?s Tomb that pay homage to the mighty Afghan & Mughal Empires. ?We drive past the President?s Palace and visit India Gate in the Lutyens? Imperial City.? Afternoon head out to explore Old Delhi with its narrow dirt roads, its myriad people and inexpensive and colorful bazaars that keep alive the traditional workmanship for which Delhi has always been famous. Our first stop is Raj Ghat (the cremation ground of Mahatma Gandhi). Driving past the Red Fort (we will visit the more elaborate Red Fort in Agra) we will enjoy a cycle rickshaw ride in the heart of Chandini Chowk (the silver square - so named because of the silver merchants). Negotiating alleyways, which seemingly get narrower and narrower we end up at the Jama Masjid, the largest Muslim mosque in India.
In and around AmritsarAfter early breakfast transfer to the railway station to board the train to Amritsar: NDLS/ASR Swarna Shatabdi ETD/ETA: 0720/1335 Hrs On arrival, transfer to the hotel for check-in. Amritsar, the home of the Golden Temple, the religious place of the Sikh Community in India. The Literal meaning of Amritsar is Holy Pool of Nector. Amritsar being the second largest city of Punjab is main commercial centre of the city. Late afternoon, visit Golden Temple. The Golden Temple, also known as Sri Harmandar Sahib was initiated by the fourth Guru of Sikh s, Guru Ramdas Jee and completed in 1601 by his successor Guru Arjan Dev Jee. After breakfast visit again the Golden Temple. Later visit Jalian Wala Bagh, where, on April 13, 1919, 90 British Indian Army soldiers under the command of Brigadier General Reginald Dyer opened fire on an unarmed gathering of men, People pay homage to all the solders at this place. Afternoon, drive 30 Kms up to the Wagah Border for Change of Guards ceremony held by Pakistani Rangers & Indian BSF. It is one of the most amazing displays of protocol being followed by two armies. Today we will experience the life of this ancient city. See the beauty of the rising sun on the Ganges Boat Ride. The boat ride passes along some of the 100 ghats, with numerous palaces built by Hindu kings. Experience the early morning rituals of the Hindus being performed, thousands of people taking a bath in the holy river believing they will be free from the circle of rebirth. It is interesting to see the pilgrims offering sweets, flowers and holy water to the Sun God.? After breakfast visit the Buddhist center of Sarnath which is close to Varanasi. ? It is a spiritual place of stupas, shrines and temples, where Budhha preached his first sermon. In the afternoon, we?ll take a rickshaw ride to the Ghats. We will walk around the ghats photographing this amazing spectacle with our knowledgeable guide who will explain the various activities.? In and around KhajurahoAfter breakfast, transfer to Varanasi airport and board the flight for Khajuraho. The small sleepy town of Khajuraho was once the religious capital of the mighty Chandela dynasty, which built 85 magnificent temples here during their reign which lasted until the end of the 10th century. 22 of these highly erotic sandstone temples remain, in homage to the most prolific period of Hindu temple sculpture. The importance of eroticism in these temples is still a mystery. Whilst staying in Khajuraho it is worth visiting the beautiful Panna National Park, 31 kms away, which has large areas of unspoilt forest and a variety of wildlife including tiger, leopard, chital, sambhar and langurs. After early breakfast, enjoy the sightseeing of Western Group of Temples consists of a group of artistic temples built in sandstone. The sculptures of Hindu deities, dancers and musicians appear to be so natural as if they would come alive any time. We will visit the Varaha Temple dedicated to Vishnu, and also the Lakshmana Temple also dedicated to Vishnu. It is one of the earliest of the western enclosure temples dating from 930 to 950 AD. The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is not only the largest of the temples, it is also artistically and architecturally the most perfect. Built between 1025 and 1050 it represents Chandella art at its most finely developed phase.? Later drive to Jhansi en route visit Orchha. Like something straight out of an Indiana Jones film, this sleepy village has much to show of its glorious past. Huge crumbling temples and palaces rise out of the surrounding jungle, overlooking the undulating hills and the wide boulder-strewn Betwa River. A small village can be found amongst the ruins of this once mighty city which was capital of the Bundela kingdom from 1531 to 1783. Visit this beautiful medieval town, was once the capital of Bundela Kings. Built along the banks of the river Betwa, flowing through a rugged country century side, it still retains the captivating air of a bygone era. Amongst the various imposing edifices, of particular interest are the Jehangiri Mahal, built by Raja Bir Singh Deo to commemorate the visit of Mughal Emperor Jehangir, the Raj Mahal and the Laxmi Narayan temple, both noted for their fine Frescoes and Mural paintings. Early morning visit Taj Mahal on sunrise. Taj Mahal is best experienced at sunrise when the light reflects off the marble to give it a magnificent hue. Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan over a period of 17 years from 1632, in memory of his beloved late wife Mumtaz Mahal. ?A world Heritage site, it is one of the wonders of the modern world and you will be enthralled with its ethereal beauty.? IMP: Taj remains closed on Fridays. After breakfast, visit Agra Fort which is another dimension to the city that attracts tourists in hordes. Built by Akbar in Red Sandstone when he was through with the consolidation of his power after accession to power in 1654, Agra Fort worked both as a military strategic point as well as the royal residence. Many of the palaces inside the fort were later added by next generations of Mughal Emperors like Jahangir and Shahjahan. Later drive to Jaipur en route visit Fatehpur Sikri, which is a beautiful and deserted medieval city, built by Akbar the Great in the 16th century to serve as the capital of his vast empire. Akbar built the city to celebrate the birth of an heir (the future Emperor Jehangir). After 16 years, there was not enough water to support the population, so the capital was moved back to the Red Fort in Agra. The dryness that plagued Akbar and forced him to abandon his dream city is what has perfectly preserved this moment of Mughal history and exquisite memorial to the genius of Akbar for our admiration today. After breakfast visit the Pink City of Jaipur. The City Palace occupies the center of Jaipur. It now houses the Royal residence and museums with collections of textiles and costumes, armoury, manuscripts, paintings etc.? Also visit Jantar Mantar (1728-34) by king astrologer Jai Singh II. The instruments are built of stone with marble facing on the important plains for measuring the harmony of the heavens. Each instrument serves a particular function and each gives an accurate reading. After noon we will visit the nearby village of Sanganer, where we will see the villages at work?fascinating art of Tie and Dye, Bandhani, Block printing with wooden blocks and the art of handmade papers.?
